Editorial guides provide taste, but quickly become static and outdated.
Recommendations from friends are high-signal, but get lost across messages.
The problem is no longer access to information — there is already too much of it.
The problem is signal.
Standard Spaces started from the opposite premise of most discovery products: a city guide becomes more useful as its signal-to-noise ratio increases.
The product was built around three ideas:
(1) curated inventory,
(2) spatial discovery, and
(3) member participation.
The editorial layer establishes the standard, the product turns the curation into a useful decision-making system, and members make the recommendations more trustworthy over time.
