Outputs that become inputs

A feedback loop exists when a system's output returns as its own input — amplifying the movement (reinforcing) or damping it (balancing).

Reading a system's loops means:

  1. Tracing where an output comes back around as an input.
  1. Determining whether that return amplifies or corrects the original movement.
  1. Changing the loop's strength or delay instead of fighting its symptoms.

Behavior you cannot explain from the parts is usually explained by the loop.
